The Portuguese Way with a Young Family

It was a wonderful walk into Santiago, and so nice to meet some familiar faces for cheers and high fives at the finish. There aren’t many young children on the Portugues Costa/Littoral route, so our chatty children stood out.

I’m so glad we decided to do this as a family. I’ve personally learnt not to underestimate what children can achieve.

Here’s some info to help others’planning.

We left Porto on 25th Aug with some short stages to get accustomed to being on our feet and out all day.

The children have been amazing! They are almost-5 and 8 years old and walked the whole way, no piggy back rides. My husband’s pack has been heavy for sure. We mainly stay in private accommodation, usually apartments found on Airbnb and booking dot com.

We mix some short days in with the long days, so we have 2 or max 3 long days in a row.

We keep our own km notes as we switch between the Littoral & Costa, and also to/from accommodation.

Matosinhos to Praia de Angeiras 11km
